This is my songACU’s new program recognises the power of fiction to build empathy and improve psychological wellbeing.Annually, the University will name Book of the Year and will provide a free copy to every new student.

First year courses across the university will draw on the cultural and social themes of the novel as a way of broadening student perspectives.

The inaugural winner for 2020 is Mr Richard Yaxley’s book, ‘This is My Song’.

This year’s theme was ‘Hope’, with five books being shortlisted:

  • A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman
  • The Year of Wonders by Geraldine Brooks
  • The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah
  • This is My Song by Richard Yaxley
  • The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

The winner of the inaugural ACU Book of the year, was announced on Thursday 19 September 2019.
